Vega One All in One Nutritional Shake Smoothie

vega one all in one nutritional shake review

Vega One smoothies are a fantastic way to start the day with a ton of nutrients. Fruit is more beneficial to you at the beginning of day when  your stomach is empty.

Vega One Nutritional Shake is free from dairy, gluten, soy, and contains no added sugar, artificial flavours, colours or sweeteners. I chose the Vega One nutritional shake with natural flavour to give me the flexibility to mix it with anything I want.

Vega One All in One Nutritional Shake. Below is the list of nutrients in the shake I found on the Vega website:

Vega one all in one nutrients

• 50% daily intake of vitamins and minerals

• 15 g protein

• 6 g fibre

• 1.5 g Omega-3

• Antioxidants

• Probiotics

• Greens

You can get all of your fruit servings required for the day in your morning smoothie.

Easy, Healthy, Morning Smoothie Recipe:

Blend together 1 scoop Vega One All in One nutritional shake, 1.5 cups unsweetened original almond milk, 1/4 cup dried Goji Berries, 1/2 cup fresh or frozen fruit, 1 teaspoon of manuka honey. 1 tablespoon of flax seeds (optional)

The fruit portion of the smoothie can be different each time. Blueberries, mango, mixed berries, banana and strawberries all make great smoothies.

***Tip for working girls: If you are like me and have to leave the house quite early to get to work on time, make your smoothie at night. Blend your smoothie before bed or while you are watching TV at night and place your Vega One smoothie in a to-go container to take with you the next day.

Must Read Article – Beware of Sugar Filled Drinks

innocent smoothie full of sugar

Innocent smoothie has as much sugar as 3.5 Krispy Kreme donuts

This article from the Daily Mail UK is a must read! I knew that juice and packaged smoothies contained a lot of sugar so I usually stay away from them, but I did not know it was this bad! Stick with drinking water and tea to be safe and avoid extra sugar in your diet.

Healthy Peanut Butter Smoothie

Happy Tummy Healthy Body (Cocoa-Peanut Smoothie Blast).

One of my friends posted this healthy peanut butter smoothie recipe on her amazing blog. Happy Tummy Healthy Body is filled with gluten free and dairy free recipes that taste great and good for you. I blended this together right before bed and put it in the fridge to drink in the morning when I woke up. This recipe is so simple and quick to make I might just make it part of my routine. I had some chocolate protein powder in the cupboard that has just been waiting to be used so I switched that with the cocoa powder in the recipe. This was a great way to start my day instead of my usual bagel, not exactly filled with nutrients :s.

3 Healthy Herbal Teas to Drink Daily

26 Apr

There are a lot of health benefits of herbal tea, and the great thing about herbal tea is that it is caffeine free, this means you can drink it multiple times a day and any time of day. Different teas will have different health benefits for you and your body. Drinking herbal tea is a perfect way to warm up on a cold day or relax after a long day of work.

When drinking any type of tea you should never reboil the water. Every time you reboil the water it loses some of the oxygen content. There are also some theories on how reboiling water will cause toxins in the water, I am not sure how true this is or why it happens but I like to stick with fresh water just in case!

Here are 3 Herbal Teas I love

Night time Chamomile

Chamomile

What even is a chamomile? I did not know this until a little bit ago but chamomile is daisy like plant that is most commonly used for making tea. It is one of the most popular teas for drinking late at night right before bed. Chamomile helps with insomnia, and is perfect for when you are home sick with a sore throat or stuffy nose. You can add manuka honey and lemon for more flavor. (Steep 4-7 minutes)

Peppermint

Peppermint tea

Peppermint tea is said to enhance your dreams and stimulate creativity. I am not so sure how true this is but it is still one of my favorites! Peppermint tea is really good for relaxing an upset stomach or if you are feeling gassy. You might want to avoid peppermint tea if you are prone to heart burn as you might already know peppermint can make it worse. (Steep 30-60 seconds)

Lemon Tea

Lemon

Lemon tea is fresh and perfect for making into an ice tea in the summer months when it is too hot for regular tea. Not only is this tea uplifting but has many health benefits like being an antioxidant, antiseptic, and strengthens brain and memory function. (Steep 4-7 minutes)

While loose leaf tea is better than tea in a bag because you get full leaves instead of pretty much “tea dust” that does not mean that tea in a bag is bad for you or does not have any benefit at all. If you are new to drinking tea you can start with trying a few different teas from the grocery store and then later when you really find what you like you can advance to a more expensive loose leaf tea.

St. Lawrence Market – A better way to shop

20 Apr

St. Lawrence Market

Friday afternoon is always my time to clean and do groceries to get ready for the weekend. Yesterday I decided to make the trip to St. Lawrence Market in Toronto for some fresh fish and ingredients for ceviche. My dad is a huge fisherman so we always make ceviche with freshly caught fish when we are in Florida. This was my first time making ceviche on my own and I think it turned out quite nice. It was super easy to make, you just have to make sure you leave enough time for it to sit and “cook” before eating. The St. Lawrence Market in Toronto is one of the best Markets in the world and a great place to get high quality meat, fish and vegetables. Every time I buy vegetables from there I’m surprised by how much cheaper it is.

Seafood Counter St. Lawrence

Here’s what you need:

Red snapper fillet (deboned)

3 Lemons

2 Limes

Red onion

1 tomato

Cilantro

1-2 Jalapeno

Avocado

Ceviche

Here’s how to make it:

First juice the lemon and lime into a large bowl, the acid from the lemon and lime are what cook the fish. Slice the fish into small 1 inch bite size pieces and put them into the bowl. Chop your onion, tomato, jalapeno and cilantro and add them to the bowl too. Put your ceviche in the fridge for 4-6 hours and right before eating slice up about half an avocado and add it on the side. This is such an easy fresh tasting recipe for an appetizer or a whole meal. Enjoy!

Benefits of Manuka Honey

Benefits of Manuka Honey

manuka.honey

It has been said that honey contains antibacterial benefits but Manuka Honey specifically has even more antibacterial benefits than your average jar of honey. The Manuka pollen is collected by honey-bees from the Manuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium). The bush only flowers between 2-6 weeks of the year and comes from the same plant family as the Tea Tree in Australia.

This honey is full of antioxidants and natural properties to keep itself fresh naturally without any preservatives or refrigeration. The natural antibiotics in Manuka Honey are perfect for adding to your tea, steel cut oats or smoothie. Take daily to prevent sickness and help your body fight against disease!

When you are buying your Manuka Honey pay attention to the “Active” number, this one I have in the photograph has an active level of 12, anything over 10 is going to be beneficial! This honey tends to be a lot more expensive but a little goes a long way so you will find the jar lasting you a long time.
