Green Smoothie Filled with Best Ingredients for Healthy Hair & Skin!

This delicious Green Smoothie not only tastes good but is great for your hair, skin and nails! Putting the right foods into your body helps you to feel better on the inside and look better on the outside. Having healthy hair, skin and nails is not just dependent on what products you use but also depends on what nutrients you are getting through food.

Ingredients

Serves 2

2 cups fresh spinach

2 cups water

1 cup kiwi (frozen for extra chilled green smoothie)

1 cup mango (frozen for extra chilled green smoothie)

2 tablespoon of chia seeds

1/2 cup plain greek yogurt

Directions

1. Tightly pack 2 cups of fresh spinach, blend spinach and water together first until all leafy chunks are gone.

Yoga tree is a chain of yoga studios down town Toronto, Richmond Hill, and Vaughan. I have been going to the Yoga Tree Vaughan location for the past month.

The Studio beautiful and spacious. They have a very nice open sitting area for before and after class where you can enjoy some complimentary hot herbal and green tea. The locker room is spacious with showers available for after class. Towels for class and mats can be rented, but towels for the showers cannot.

The Classes

You do not have to worry about signing up online before class, they leave spots open for walk ins and I have never had a problem finding a spot.  I signed up for their 30 days unlimited intro for $40 so have had a chance to try out a bunch of their classes. My favourite teacher at the studio is Jen, she teaches a more challenging class where you feel like you really worked at the end. I am usually sore after her classes and I love the feeling of being sore! Jen also teaches a free Lululemon Community Class on Fridays at Yoga Tree at 6:45 pm. Check our Lululemon Vaughan Mills Facebook Page for updates on their community class locations.

Yoga Tree Vaughan has two classrooms, “fire” is the Hot Yoga room and “Flow” is for all other classes. They have a reduced heat class too, great for someone that has never done a hot class before! The reduced heat is 28 Celsius, still really warm and you still get sweaty but it is not as sweltering as a full fledge hot class.

I will definitely continue coming to this studio even after my intro package is expired!

With the holidays coming up that usually means vacation! Before we go on vacation it seems like the focus is always on getting in shape so we look great good in that bikini. But what about how to stay fit while on vacation? We have to maintain everything that we worked so hard for. I’m going to provide some useful tips for staying fit while your on vacation.

Pack Snacks for Travel

It seems like every time I travel in an airport I feel like I have gained weight just from that one day. This is probably because I just spent most of my day in a chair and ate a ton of junk food because that’s all there was. The solution: plan ahead and pack snacks for the airport and flight so you don’t end up overpaying for a can Pringles and regretting it later. What type of snack should you pack? almonds, grapes, carrots all great for travel. While your in the airport waiting for the flight to board keep walking around, browse the shops, keep moving while you can because when you get on the flight you wont be able to.

Walk Instead of Taking a Taxi

If your traveling to a downtown city search online ahead of time, find out what restaurants are walking distance from the hotel, go to those instead.

Wake up Early

Traveling with friends or family that do not like to workout?
Wake up an extra hour early and use the gym in your hotel, no gym at the hotel? use a chair for tricep dips, do 3 sets of 15 pushups, and 3 different ab exercises on the floor. Doing SOMETHING is better than nothing.

Plan Physical Activities

If your going somewhere warm you can play tennis or beach volleyball, you can still get a tan and its a good social activity. Do laps in the pool or take a walk on the beach. See if there are any local yoga classes available for you to take. You don’t have to do an intense workout, you are on vacation!

Doing even a little bit of activity to stay fit on vacation will help you to feel better about yourself allowing you to relax and enjoy your vacation even more.

How to Take Care of Yourself During Stress

Do you need to a little help with how to take care of yourself during stress? Stress can become harmful to your body and health when it is not dealt with. Stress can lead to problems sleeping, upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, depression and anxiety.

When you are going through a major life crisis or stressed out about something its easy to forget about taking care of yourself.

How to Deal With Your Stress

Resist the urge to eat packaged food and take out: When your stressed its hard to find the motivation and time to go to the grocery store, buy fresh food and come home and cook it too. If your not in the mood to cook, try to push your self to at the very least make the easiest meal you know how to make. If that seems like too much work or you do not have time to do even that, buy frozen healthy meals and canned vegetable soup. Don’t let yourself do this for too long or too often, try making dinner for yourself every other day instead of every day. Ease back into cooking and eating right and soon it will become a habit again.

Go to a workout class: when your not feeling motivated to workout it helps to take a class, seeing other women and talking to people will help you to feel social without having to talk about what is bothering you. The best thing about going to a class when your not motivated is the instructor does all the work, you essentially don’t have to think, just follow the directions. Whether your in the mood to workout or not you will probably get your butt kicked and feel motivated by the energy in the room. Hopefully your instructor will have a fun playlist that will cheer you up too, this brings me to my next point.

Listen to music: Listen to music while cleaning, doing dishes, getting ready. Listening to music will help relax your mind and act as a distraction. Listening to happy music and singing along in the car, shower, wherever you are can be a great release of tension and actually get you smiling again.

Do Something Productive: This could be cleaning the house, reading an interesting book, de cluttering your closet or doing something even bigger and work on that project you have been wanting to start. Doing something productive with your spare time instead of watching TV, a movie or browsing for endless hours on the internet will help you to feel better about yourself. At the end of the day if you did nothing productive you probably wont feel good.

Write Down Your Thoughts in a Journal: Writing down your thoughts can actually put your mind at ease and prevent you from dwelling on the same thought over and over again. You can write these thoughts down at any time during the day when a thought comes to mind, write it down and move on. Writing your thoughts and feelings on paper before bed can help you sleep better at night.

Speaking from experience, whether you do one of these tips or all of them it will help you to get back on the right track. Feeling stressed about something can take over your life, but it’s important to know how to take carer of yourself during stress to make sure you are focusing on every aspect of your life and fulfilling the needs of your body and mind to stay happy and healthy.

How to Stay Healthy During the Holidays

Staying healthy and fit during the holiday season can be difficult, but the trick is to go into the holidays forgetting that mindset, instead convince yourself that it is NOT difficult. It’s easy to make an excuse for ourselves and say “oh the holidays are coming, I should just give up now”. It’s true the holidays are coming, but we do not have to eat cookies, pie and heavy meals every day.

Start your NewYears resolution NOW, don’t wait until NewYears day when you’ve packed on 3 pounds of holiday weight and are hung over. You can wait until after New Years to start your heavy training but don’t make it harder for yourself by going crazy on junk food now.

With American Thanksgiving and Christmas quickly approaching start thinking about how your going to manage the holiday season now.

1. Keep up with your workout routine, if that means getting up extra early because you don’t have time after work do it! Staying active and making the time to stay active will influence you to eat healthy too.

2. Allow yourself to have treats. The holiday season is about enjoying yourself and involves some indulging but it does not have to be a complete write off. It’s okay to have one gingerbread cookie, or one slice of pie. If you eat healthy all day long and go to an event that night, let yourself indulge.

3. Don’t Stress. When your a guest or at a family members house you don’t always have control over what is being served. Be polite and still eat what they are serving, but when you have control over your meal make sure its healthy and nutritious! Try packing a lunch for work instead of going out to eat, eat fresh foods, raw veggies for snacking. You save money this way too.

4. Reduce Alcohol Intake. Drinking anything packs on empty calories that could have been spent on a delicious dessert. Try to stick to 1-2 drinks or nothing at all! Drinking too much will not only pack on the calories but will prevent you from wanting to get up early the next morning to workout.
